I was worried that with the heavy subject matter (I read the first scene several months ago and had to set it aside), it was gonna be, you know, sad and depressing. I didn't want to read about *that* happening, particularly to the main character. But it didn't. And I loved the story. It was deeply emotional and heart-wrenching, yet uplifting and empowering at the same time. It's one of those books that ends and you're sad, because it's over.
